B.Sc Zoology and B.Sc Advance Zoology & Biotechnology

     

Hi all, I am going to discuss about two courses (Which I would like personally and got my UG degree too) regarding B.Sc Zoology and B.Sc Advance Zoology and Biotechnology (AZB).Both the courses were more or less same, where AZB deals with some technological papers.

B.Sc Zoology is a branch of life science deals with the study of animal kingdom including evolution, structure, classification, reproduction in relation to environment, whereas B.Sc Advance Zoology and Biotechnology (AZB) is the study of animals with technological specification like biotechnology, genetics, microbiology, medical laboratory technology and statistical application etc.

Duration - 3 to 4 years (Hons degree also available)

Eligibility - 10+2 Pass (Biology group is must)

Average fees - 10 K to 30 K for three years (Government aided colleges) may vary up to 75 k under private institutions for three years.


Scope of zoology and AZB

Most people (both science and non-science background) says that” you cannot expect a job with good salary in branch of biology and there is no much scope in this stream.unless you want to become a teacher”,is this true?

No, there is ample number of choices available in this stream (Of course I would also thought the same before, but after knowing the opportunities feeling proud to be studied under this group) like Research technician, Environmental consultant, Technical writer ,zoo or museum keeper etc.

My personal advice is, do not mould yourself for others choice. One thing is that if you are in a science based field it will definitely have a scope, but you have to work hard to reach and also if you do not passionate about any branch of Life science better not to pursue further.

B.Sc (General) vs B.Sc (Hons) -minor differences

Hi all,Today I am going to give some clarifications on B.Sc courses(difference between general and hons degree in B.Sc).


Always there is a confusion exist between B.Sc general (pass) course with B.Sc honours course.It starts when we were going to apply in a college where they have separate application forms for both and we are unable to choose which one is best or better for us.


To resolve this confusion and to have a clear view I would have stated some differences between them based on certain parameters that would help students make a better choice.


B.Sc General vs. B.Sc Honours

There are typically two types of B.Sc degrees awarded to students – B.Sc General (commonly known as B.Sc Pass) and B.Sc Honours. 

Both are academic degrees given to undergraduate students,however in India B.Sc Honours degree is not commonly available.Only few colleges were offering this course.



Definition

• B.Sc General course is designed to provide foundation knowledge of Science subjects to students. It usually focuses on all major subjects of Science. 
• B.Sc Honours course is designed to develop advanced theoretical, practical, and research skills among students. It is a more standardized degree and focuses mainly on one major subject area. 

For example

If you want to study any one of the pure sciences (like chemistry, physics, mathematics etc.) in detail, it is advisable to go for a B.Sc (Honours) course.

But, if you want to be a more balanced and multi-disciplinary approach, it is better to pursue a B.Sc General course for under graduation. 




Duration 

The duration of both B.Sc Honours and B.Sc General courses spans over 3 to 5 years of time(depending on university/ college policy).

The B.Sc and the B.Sc (Hons) almost take the same time to complete. In some countries, the B.Sc (Hons) may take one more year to complete than B.Sc. Therefore, three years are needed to complete a B.Sc degree, and four years were required for the completion of a B.Sc (Hons) degree.


Mode of Education
While B.Sc Honours is usually offered as a full-time course in colleges, B.Sc General is offered as both a full-time as well as part-time (correspondence) course.



Note

• The B.Sc (Hons) is also considered as more standard academically, than the ordinary B.Sc degree.
•  A student will have to write a dissertation as mandatory for the completion of a B.Sc (Hons) degree and this is not applicable for a B.Sc degree.
•  Fees may also vary according to the subjects.
• A  B.Sc General degree is easier to obtain than B.Sc Honours.

Career opportunities

For B.Sc Honours course, career prospects in terms of job opportunities depend on the specialization, a student opts for. For instance, students with a degree in B.Sc (Honours) Physics can apply for a job as a financial analyst, lab technician, etc. Whereas students with a degree in B.Sc (Honours) Chemistry can apply for a job in sectors such as medical research, laboratories, utility companies, technical journals, etc.


Students pursuing a degree in B.Sc General course can apply for a job in fields such as teaching,research work, banking, and marketing.

It may be noted that there are many job prospects for students pursuing B.Sc Honours and B.Sc general courses in both science and non-science fields. However, it is recommended for students to pursue a master’s programme after getting their Bachelor of Science degree to get better option.

        Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) is one of the most popular undergraduate academic degree among the science stream after 12th standard.With the advancements of science and technology, this programme has become a one of the highly studied degree course in the Institutions of India.

Hi guys!

Today I am going to list you about most of the available courses in India after Schooling.

But before that I just want to tell  you something more important than this.Yes,we always hear from our parents say, “concentrate on your board exams,do hard work and get high marks, then you can achieve everything easily in life".Is this true? nope! because after this only the real struggle begins.


Our Indian Education system requires a student to decide his/her respective field of interests at two varying stages. 

• One is after the 10th grade, A 15-year-old child is expected to choose a stream between three choices- science, commerce, or humanities.
• Other is after 12th grade, where the students were entering the stepping stone towards a prospective career path to choose a  right course of their choice.

These phases becomes difficult for the young people, because of the lack of exposure and effective guidance available to the student body. "Most students are clueless as to what to do and where to get in. Children’s interest level is often restricted to either engineering or medicine".

It is important that every student has to decide his path and his career after schooling. This step has to be taken carefully with lots of planning and thinking.You must take into consideration of various factors like your interests, scope, job opportunities and financial background etc while choosing your career as Doctor,Engineer,Teacher etc.

Students go through a difficult period to come up with a decision of what they want to do in life, what course they should take. And also they were influenced by many people around them, especially Parents whose role is important to achieve their ward's dream, but  they do not influence them more or push them to the course which they never want to be.

Different people mature at different paces and we need to support our youth as they grow and develop. We need to ensure that they do not see themselves as failures if they don’t achieve in 12th or college. We should encourage them to learn more about their aptitude, to experiment and discover their interests and passions, and to always invest in self-development.

Sahasaraa -Introduction

Hello peeps!

Welcome to SAHASARAA, a place where students can learn,explore and gather information on several courses and colleges available after schooling. I am Mrs.Shanmugapriya, a former biology teacher with three years of experience from a reputed school in Chennai. Resigned the job in 2014 due to some personal reasons and currently doing as a young and enthusiastic super mom (p.s- there much to know about me, will tell in my upcoming posts 😊)

Most of the students after 12th std will start to worry about their future, education and career. They all know about their choice of course but do not have much clarity about the course and opportunities towards career. Then I thought to start this blog to be connected with my students always (I love to be with students).

Sahasaraa means “the new beginning”,yup a beginning to all of us. It is actually more than a blog and like a career guidance centre created mainly for parents and students to know about the various streams of courses.And also I'd like to share some informations on competitive exams and its career opportunities.
