An Education in Pharmacy is the study of medicinal substances and their application for therapeutic uses. It provides students with an in-depth knowledge of, how drug molecules are formulated into medicine. This knowledge can be used to develop new ways of delivering drugs safely and effectively.
Pharmacists, also known as chemists or druggists, are health care professionals who practice in pharmacy, the field of health sciences focusing on safe and effective use of medicines, whether the first discovery, the drug’s development, or its supply to patients

Admission
To get admission into the Pharmacy course, students have to complete their 10+2 education & apply for national level or state level Pharmacy entrance exam.Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) is a national level entrance test for the admission of Pharmacy courses.You can also apply for the state level exams such as EAMCET, BITSAT, WBJEE, etc as per the eligibility criteria of the exam.There are various other exams conducted by private and public universities for the admission to the various graduate and postgraduate Pharmacy courses. Few Institutions offers direct admission into the Pharmacy programme without appearing in an entrance test on the basis of the 12th marks.
Course Categories In Pharmacy
There are over 225 programs in the field of pharmacy education conducted by different universities in India.All the Pharmacy Courses are approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
Undergraduate Courses-4 year duration
Due to increasing number of Hospitals, healthcare services and Pharmaceutical Companies all over the world will provide a clear indication of growth of Pharmacy field.Pharmacists may be involved in any and all aspects of drug and medicine use, whether the first discovery, the drug’s development, or its supply to patients.The work of a Pharmacist is primarily not only filling doctors’ prescriptions for patients. Pharmacists also advise the patient on how to take the medication and what problems to avoid.
Duration
- For certificate course-1 year
- For Diploma course - 2 years
- For Undergraduate degree- 3 to 4 years
Students who wants to join the Pharmacy courses have to fulfill some eligibility criteria:
- For Certificate and Diploma Courses, result of school examination is enough.And also they can join in undergraduate course through lateral entry in second year of the course.
- Students applying for undergraduate course like B.pharm should have atleast 50% of marks in 10+2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics or physics, chemistry and biology.
- Another option is to join through Entrance exams:Some of them were
- GPAT- Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test is a national level entrance test for the admission of Pharmacy courses.
- BITSAT- Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences Aptitude Test that is conducted for seeking admission in B. Pharmacy courses. It is generally conducted in the month of May.
- WBJEE- West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination is also conducted in the month of May generally for admission to Bachelor of Pharmacy course.
- EAMCET-Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test is a entrance test conducted in the month of May.
