Hi Friends! Today I am going to give you the informations on B.Ed.Course,which will be useful to the candidates who seeks for an admission.
B.Ed. stands for Bachelor of Education is an undergraduate academic course.Earlier it was known as Bachelor of Training (BT). It is a course offered for those who are interested in pursuing career in teaching field.

The Bachelor of Education degree course is mandatory for teaching in higher primary schools & high schools. While students from arts stream are trained to teach subjects like History, Geography, Civics, and Languages. The students from science stream are trained to teach Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
Duration -2 years as per the new rules. This course is also offered through distance mode of learning and the duration is for minimum 2 years and maximum 5 years to complete.
Note
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) may decide to reduce the course duration of the Bachelor of Education (B Ed) course to one year, ever since the NCTE turned the B Ed course into a two-year in 2014, academicians have said that the demand for the course has reduced.
While the course duration was extended, the curriculum has not changed much. Students are taught a year’s curriculum in two years.So ,there is more chance to reduce the course duration in upcoming years.
Eligibility
The Selection of the candidates will be made on the basis of TNOU (Tamilnadu Open University) B.Ed Common Entrance Test & Counseling.
Issuing of application form for TN B.Ed will commence in the month of September.
Admission
Admission for B.Ed course is purely based on merit with ranking pattern.Any student seeking admission to B.Ed course has to appear for the common B.Ed Entrance Examination or apply separately to the college where they seeks admission(without entrance & counselling in private institutions).
For admission in any of the Colleges of Education coming under the control of Directorate of Collegiate Education, a Common Entrance Examination will be conducted for every year.
(i) Candidates seeking admission in Government Colleges of Education should appear for Entrance Examination.
(ii) Candidates seeking admission in Government Aided Colleges of Education and in Self-financing Colleges of Education under Government quota should appear for the Entrance Examination on the same date and with the same question paper in the centre of their choice.
(iii) Candidates seeking admission under management quota in Government Aided Colleges of Education and Self-financing Colleges of Education need not appear for the Entrance Examination.

Rank List preparation
1.The marks obtained by the candidate in Part III of the UG degree as reduced to 100 will be taken as the basis for ranking (basic mark). The same procedure will be followed even for candidates having higher qualifications.
ii)Weightage for higher qualification will be given in the following manner and added to the basic marks
For candidates with M.Phil - 5 marks
For candidates with Ph.D - 6 marks
4.After preparing the rank list, selection of candidates for admission will be done on the basis of the communal reservation prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
5.In case of a tie, i.e. if more than one candidate is competing for a particular rank, preference will be given to the candidate Register Number of the Application.
Admission - Procedure
The selected candidates will be directed to report for provisional admission within 10 days from the date of despatch of intimation under certificate of posting. The institution is not responsible for any postal delay or loss in transit.
Candidates called for provisional admission have to report at the specified time and date with all the certificates in original and must be ready to remit the college fees, as directed.

In the case of handicapped (both physical and visual) candidates, a minimum pass in the degree is required.
- The candidates should have passed the UG Degree examination in the 10+2+3 stream, with the same main subject in part III, for which he is seeking admission in the B.Ed., course.
- Candidates who have done their U.G. degree in Applied Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry or Applied Physics can apply for Chemistry and Physics optional respectively in B.Ed, those who have done Environmental Science and Micro-Biology can apply Biology optional in B.Ed and similarly candidates with Applied Geography in UG degree can apply for Geography optional
- Candidates with PG qualification alone will be considered for Economics, Commerce and Home Science.
- Candidates with professional degree in UG like Doctor,Nursing etc.,are not eligibile.
- There shall be a relaxation of marks in favor of SC and ST candidates as per norms of the State Govt. and the NCTE.
Age limit
The Minimum age of the candidates should 21 years and there is no upper age limit.
Average Fees - 20 K to 1 lac for two years.

Procedures regarding Reservation of seats
- Reservation of seats for candidates belonging to BC, MBC, SC and ST communities will be made as per the rules and regulations of the Government i.e., SC 18%; ST 1%; MBC/DNC 20%; BC 30%; OC 31%. This rule of reservation will apply to all seats in Government colleges, 50% of seats in Aided Minority Colleges and 90% of seats in Aided Non-minority colleges.
- No management quota will be permitted in the cases of the Aided Colleges which are under the direct payment system of the concerned Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education. In such cases, all seats will be filled by following the rule of reservation. In the cases of Unaided private (Self-finance) colleges, both minority & non-minority, it will apply to 50% of the seats.
- For the wards of ex-servicemen of Tamil Nadu origin one seat will be reserved in each college of education and the institution itself will select the candidates on the basis of a rank list from among such competitors.
- 3% of the sanctioned strength will be reserved for handicapped students (both Physical and Visual).
- One seat will be reserved for widow candidates in each College of Education and the institution itself will select the candidate on the basis of a rank list from among such competitors.

- For candidates who have taken more than one main subject in Part III (double /triple major) in UG degree course, the average mark obtained in the particular subject preferred as the optional subject in the B.Ed course will be taken as the basis for ranking.
2.The following marks will be added to the basic mark of the candidate, mentioned above:
i) Entrance Examination marks: Marks secured by the candidate in the Entrance Examination is reduced for 25 marks. For e.g., entrance marks 60/100 is reduced for ranking as 15/25
ii)Weightage for higher qualification will be given in the following manner and added to the basic marks
For candidates with M.Phil - 5 marks
For candidates with Ph.D - 6 marks
- Weightage will be given only once for the highest qualification acquired.
- The higher qualification for which weightage is given should be in the same subject studied as the main subject in Part III of the UG degree and preferred as optional in B.Ed course.
- N.S.S (Participated in special camp for ten days).
- N.C.C. (B or C Certificate).
- Sports (Represented the college at district level and above).

If vacancies exist after admission of candidates in the first list, then candidates will be called for admission from the waiting list. The procedure of admission for the wait listed candidates will be the same as regular list.
