Engineering-courses outline


Hi guys! Today I am going to discuss about the options on Engineering and its course categories.


The term “Engineering” has originated from the Latin word Ingenium means Cleverness' and Ingeniare means to create.Engineering is the study of application that involves in scientific and practical knowledge in order to invent, maintain, improve, build, design, system, devices, material, machine and process. It is growing with the development of nation, education, technology and research.



Eligibility - 10+2 Pass (with science group)

Duration - 4 to 5 years

Average Fees - Minimum 2 lacs required to complete the course.Based on categories of engineering it varies. 


Levels of Courses

Engineering courses are available at diploma level, undergraduate level, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

1.Diploma in Engineering is a 3-year course which students can pursue after the completion of 10 years of school education. Diploma holders are eligible for lateral entry to the third semester(from second year onwards) of  Engineering Courses. Diploma in Engineering is offered in various disciplines.

2.Undergraduate Course leading to B.Teeh (Bachelor of Technology) or B.E (Bacheolar of Engineering) is the 4-year full-time degree course in engineering. This course can be done with one of the engineering discipline.

3.Postgraduate Course leading to M.Tech (Master of Technology) or M.E (Master of Engineering)  is a 2-years course that one can pursue after completing a 4-year undergraduate program in engineering (B.Tech).

4.Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering (Ph.D) is the advanced research course in engineering that has the duration of 3 years, which may varies from college to college. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program should have a master degree in respective discipline.

Scope of Engineering

Looking at the number of engineering colleges in India and the number of engineers coming out of these colleges each year, the questions that arise in everyone’s minds are, does India need so many engineers?” Are they all employable? The negativism brought forth by such questions has crippled about Engineering education in India.

In this global era, rather than focus on India, the question should be whether the world needs so many engineers. The answer is a big, “yes.” Is there a need for scientists? The answer is again, “yes.” The world needs in plenty well-equipped, talented graduates with the right attitude. There are job opportunities for those who have the potential.
Every engineering branch has its significance. It depends on the choice of the student. You can join any manufacturing industry and go towards research and development in any field of Engineering.

 In addition, opportunities for self-employment are also plenty for innovative and energetic minds.With the emergence of several public and private sector job opportunities in the engineering sector  has also evolved. Several government and private institutions are functioning in the country offering engineering education and helping students build a better career.


Pay scale

Initially an Engineering graduate earn 10 k to 30 k,it varies on different branches of Engineering.

This is the list of pros and cons  which can help you better to choose your path.

Pros


  • Engineers often escalate to management positions and earn excellent money over the life of their careers.
  • If a career in research is interesting, an engineering degree can pave the way to further study.
  • Great salary right out of College.
  • An engineering education can open many doors – with additional education, engineers can also become lawyers, Business professionals,writers, teachers.
  • An understanding of high level math gives a greater understanding of the world around you, and application of this to real problems can be very satisfying.
  • Abundant job opportunities worldwide.
Cons

  • The work can be stressful – especially when the equipment or structure has the potential to impact human life.
  • More time in college than an associate’s degree (higher cost for college).
  • Workload can be unpredictable and at times very high.
  • Competitive atmosphere for promotion (performance as perceived by superiors determines one’s ability to be promoted).
  • Fewer practical skills upon graduation. Often, engineering students have very little opportunity to take business, manufacturing, art, or writing courses.
  • Very rigorous and abstract mathematics is required.
